Georgetown and Morganza Bridges (mileposts 27.1 & 27.4): Opened July 2012.

Bebout Bridge, Arrowhead Trail (milepost 32.7): New bridge open April 2012.

The Montour Trail may be closed between mileposts 21.2 and 21.6 (Galati Road and Gilmore Junction) for construction between May 10 and May 24. There is an on road detour on Southview and Galati Roads. For complete details on all construction notices for the Montour Trail please Visit the Website

Trail construction between mileposts 38.3 and 39.1, Triphammer to Piney Fork Road, was completed on May 4 and this new ¾ mile of trail is now open to trail users. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for mid-July, tentatively for July 13. For complete details on all construction notices for the Montour Trail please Visit the Website

The Valley Brook #1 Bridge (milepost 30.5) is currently under construction to close a 250 yard on road gap in the Montour Trail in Peters Township, Washington County. The bridge was set on its abutments on May 15. Completion of the bridge is anticipated by late-summer 2013. The current detour is on a busy road with no shoulders and poor sight distances. Valley Brook #1 will span Brush Run and allow the trail to be routed on the abandoned Montour Railroad right of way. The on road detour will be shortened from 250 to 55 yards and the remaining short detour has shoulders and better sight distances. An engineering contract for Valley Brook #2 Bridge is currently out for bid. Construction of Valley Brook #2 Bridge is anticipated in 2014 or early 2015. Valley Brook #2 will cross Valley Brook Road and eliminate the on road detour between mileposts 30.3 and 30.5.

The South Park Connector to the Montour Trail is nearly complete. The connector runs through South Park approximately 2.1 miles from Corrigan Drive to the Montour Trail at milepost 36.9. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for early June.

The Montour Trail Council is planning to resurface the trail in South Park Township between Stewart Road (milepost 36.7) and the Triphammer Road west trailhead (milepost 38.1) in early June. The trail will remain open, but trail users are urged to use caution while grading and surfacing operations are in progress. Pinkerton Tunnel
Last updated on: 04/26/2013

The Pinkerton Tunnel, near Markleton, remains closed with a detour on abandoned rail line following the river. This is a permanent detour, there are no plans to reconstruct this tunnel. CSX Transportation is currently undertaking a project to open cut their railroad tunnel adjacent trail at the Pinkerton Horn. The project will not impact trail usage, with the exception of small interuptions that may arise for safety purposes. The project is anticipated to be complete by the summer of 2013. Last updated on: 04/26/2013

The long-term plan for the Southside Segment of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is to connect to the existing trail at the Waterfront in Homestead/West Homestead and the Steel Valley Trail. Currently construction plans are complete including agreements with private property owners. Funding is largely secured and we anticipate construction to begin shortly and be complete by fall of 2012. This is the final uncompleted section of the Great Allegheny Passage.
