I broke my elbow on June 23rd. On August 15th, I rode a bicycle from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, DC, in 3 days. 357 miles, 26 out of 57 hours spent pedaling.

Jonathan Wolff -The idea for this adventure started 6 weeks ago after I broke my elbow training for an enduro mountain bike race. After getting injured, I needed a new target- something to work towards. Rehabilitation of the elbow was a foregone conclusion, the new challenge needed to be daunting and inspirational. Something to motivate and excite. Training on a drop bar gravel bike for a ride from PGH > DC fit this criterion. It also had the added benefit of helping me maintain bicycle fitness while recovering.

The route from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, DC is on trails: "The Great Allegheny Passage" and "The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Trail". Both are gravel paths and only allow hikers and bikers. This was a great initiation into ultra endurance cycling and bikepacking in general. More.....
