April 29, 2017 STARTING POINT – Town Center at The Waterfront (Behind the Starbucks)
270 West Bridge St, West Homestead, PA 15120
The SVTC with the support of the 3RBC is sponsoring a bicycle ride on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail (GAP Trail) to celebrate the success of the raptors (birds of prey) that nested on the trail in 2016. The ride will include a visit to the osprey nest just past Kennywood and to the Hays bald eagle nest. The ride will also visit the great horned owl nest (which is inactive this year, though the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center will have a rescued live owl on site) and a red tail hawk nest or two. Experienced Three Rivers Birding Club (3RBC) members will be at the various raptor nest sites and most if not all sites will have scopes available for close up viewing of the nest sites and any raptors that might be present.
