Big Savage Tunnel to Reopen on March 31

Somerset County will reopen the Big Savage Tunnel on the afternoon of Friday, March 31, making travel between Meyersdale and Frostburg possible on the Great Allegheny Passage once again. Custom doors secure the tunnel during the winter months, when cold temperatures and brisk winds at high elevation would otherwise deteriorate its protective inner lining. Plan a visit out to Big Savage Tunnel in April to catch great views into Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia, just outside its eastern portal.
