On November 25, Allegany County will temporarily close the historic Borden Tunnel, at mile marker 17.9 along the Great Allegheny Passage, between Frostburg and Meyersdale. There is no posted detour and there will be no shuttle in place. Over the winter, professional crews will continue critical rehabilitation work on the tunnel ceiling and walls. Leading up to this closure, please be aware that construction vehicles will be present on this segment of the GAP. Please use extra caution and be prepared to dismount if requested by contractors. There may be flaggers present to pause trail users while equipment is being moved in and out of the area. The Borden Tunnel is scheduled to reopen on April 1, 2027, although work will continue through April 30, 2027 with crews and flaggers present.
