Amtrak to Temporarily Merge Capitol Limited into Floridian

By Bryan Perry |

Beginning November 10, 2024, Amtrak will temporarily combine its Capitol Limited (Chicago to Washington D.C.) and Silver Star (Washington D.C. to Miami) routes to create the FloridianThe Floridian (trains 40/41) will operate on a similar schedule, make the current stops, and follow the same tracks used by the Capitol Limited (trains 29/30) among Pittsburgh, Connellsville, Cumberland, Harpers Ferry, and Washington, D.C., preserving the option of return trips for travelers along Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Towpath. So if you’re seeking to book a trip on the Capitol Limited after November 10, look instead on Amtrak’s website for the Floridian.

This arrangement may last a year or longer, as combining these routes temporarily alleviates pressure on on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor infrastructure, freeing up equipment while contractors complete the East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project in New York City.
