Come for a visit to Antietam Creek Vineyards, located in Sharpsburg, Maryland, just off the C&O Canal Towpath. Their vintners take exceptional care to produce high-quality grapes that express the full characteristics of Bordeaux-style wines. Enjoy a tasting in their converted 1903 barn and take in a view of rolling hills and the mountains beyond. Antietam Creek Vineyards borders the southern portion of the Antietam National Battlefield Park, which was established to memorialize the September 17, 1862 Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest battle in U.S. history. Most of the fighting of that time unfolded on private farms like theirs, and though the farm on which Antietam Creek Vineyards now grows grapes saw no fighting during that battle, the farm has remained in private hands since that time.
