Segment reopened for travel on April 14

Temporary Segment Closure Near Pittsburgh

GAP Mile 136 | Reported on | Last Updated:

A segment of the Great Allegheny Passage between Duquesne (roughly mile marker 136) and Homestead (roughly mile marker 138) that was closed for about two weeks in early April, has been reopened to the public as of April 14.

The section of the GAP that was closed is located beneath Kennywood Park and is bookended by the Whitaker and Port Perry Flyovers. There was no detour, and we did not recommend riding on local roads, which are heavily trafficked. Instead, we recommended hiring a shuttle service to transport you and your bicycle between the trail access points in Duquesne and Homestead. One local shuttle is Bill’s Car Service. See this list of shuttle services for other potential options.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit buses also travel between Duquesne and Homestead using the 61C route; each bus is equipped to carry two standard-size bicycles. Please go to www.rideprt.org for more information about bus service.
