An early morning microburst has downed hundreds of trees inside Ohiopyle State Park and park staff has temporarily closed the Great Allegheny Passage between mile markers 81 and 86 — between Ohiopyle and Connellsville — despite laboring since the wee hours to clear as much of the trail as possible. There is no detour around this dangerous area. Extra crews will arrive Saturday from neighboring state parks to clear the GAP, but it may take a few days to handle the debris. If you can avoid the area, please do. If you’re thru-biking, please contact an outfitter like Wilderness Voyageurs or White Water Adventurers to ask about a paid shuttle from Ohiopyle to Connellsville or vice versa. Watch for updates on this page.
The GAP has reopened in this section; please travel with caution as some debris remains on the surface.
